Abstract
To examine the efficacy and efficiency of double skin façade system in Palestine, an integrated building with southern DSF elevation has been designed. The project is designed in Nablus city, Tunis Street and neat At-tuffah valley. It is a residential building with commercial floor. Integrated design has been performed through the five engineering fields: Architectural, Structural, Environmental, Mechanical and Electrical aspects. The building consists of 7 floors, the basement is a car parking, ground floor is commercial floor the rest of floors are residential floors. The building has a Palestinian pattern. The double skin façade system is southern elevation helped significantly in reducing thermal loads comparing with uninsulated building. In addition the system has achieved great sound insulation especially at high frequencies (bigger 100 Hz). Further, an integrated photo pholtaic system has been designed, in order to generate energy nearly all days per year in different seasons. The idea was to utilize sun’s altitude. This system has two major parts, the first is installed on southern elevation and the second is installed on roof. Full mechanical design also has been performed including lifts, grey and black water drainage systems, grey and fresh water supply, effective HVAC system for each floor, effective and safe fire system for all different floors. A new system cares about the building in operation and maintenance phase, considering that operation and maintenance the biggest phase in project’s life. The system has periodic repairs, conditions that should be maintained during construction and a cleaning system for southern elevation. Project cost has been calculated, it estimated to be 8 million ILS.
