dc.description.abstract | Nablus city faces many problems related to water especially in the winter, these problems include flooding, accidents, and hassling the pedestrians. In addition to that, ground water is limited, runoff flow is being wasted, and the citizens of the city don’t have access to clean water all the time. Therefore, the solution for this was to somehow increase the accessed ground water, this was done by using a permeable paving system, more specifically, the porous asphalt. To achieve this, a porous asphalt design was made and a feasibility study was done to see whether the economic and environmental aspects for porous asphalt add any benefits or harms compared to the conventional asphalt design. By the end of the study, it was concluded that economically, the porous asphalt paving system saved up to 1,912,000 ILS for the return period of the study which is 20 years compared to the conventional design. As for the environmental aspect, it was concluded that if the conventional pavement is replaced by the porous asphalt, the groundwater could be recharged at a rate of 107,404.7 m3 /year. In other words, 37,023,350 ILS per year can be saved for the government which can satisfy the capita of the city for around 7 days | en_US |
