Abstract
Although management is a crucial part of any construction project, a lot of neglection to implementation of project management principles has occurred in Palestine. This neglection of application may lead to many problems during the construction phase, such as; cost overruns, the large amount of deviation between estimated and actual cost, delay in project completion time and over or under estimated needed resources. This study will deal with an under-construction building, which is the Modern English School (MES). It is located in the Ma’ajeen area in the North Western part of Nablus city. The school land has an area of about four thousand and nine hundred square meters, with almost three thousand and seven hundred square meters of construction divided into three stories, in addition to exterior playgrounds and parking zones. This study aims to convince contractors with the significance of the implementation of project management principles over the life cycle of a construction project. This will be achieved through utilizing advanced technology called Building Information Modelling ‘BIM’. It will assist in identifying the best schedule for the selected project, perform resource management, cost management and modeling virtual construction of the project in 4Dimensional. The process involves: First, investigating and analyzing the bid documents of the selected project; Second: the “REVIT” software will be used to build 3Dimensional model of the building. Moreover, smart data and bill of quantities will be extracted from the “REVIT” tool. Then, productivity rates and unit prices data will be collected from the market and inserted in “PRIMAVERA” tool. After that, the project completion time and cost will be found using “PRIMAVERA”. Furthermore, the results of “PRIMAVERA” and “REVIT” will be integrated on the “NAVISWORKS” software in order to acquire the 4Dimensional virtual construction model. Finally, the comparison will be conducted between the estimated data and actual data to prove the positive effect of applying management principles prior to the construction phase.
