Abstract
This project is designed to help players explore Nablus and educate people on Nablus’s significate landmarks in a fun way. The project is a location based augmented reality android game where each level begins by giving the player a number of areas marked on Nablus’s map. To complete the level, the player has to physically visit these areas. When the player enters a main area, they are notified that they are near an item. The player begins the search for the hidden item using the phone’s camera. When the player is in proximity to the item’s predetermined location, the item appears on the camera and the player can collect it. Each item represents a piece of the level’s puzzle. When all of the pieces are collected, the puzzle can be solved, the current level can be completed and the next level will get unlocked. The completed puzzle reveals one of Nablus’s important landmarks and places. There are also different types of optional areas which can help the player by providing hints or aiding in solving the puzzle. The player runs out of energy when moving from place to place. When the energy meter runs out, the areas get hidden and the map vision gets blurred until energy is restored. Energy can be restored by visiting restaurants or hospitals nearby and acquiring power ups that are stored there. New levels can be added dynamically through the game’s website. The project will be developed using various tools and programing languages such as the Mapbox SDK for the map, Google Places API for getting the names and locations of restaurants and hospitals nearby. Unity 3D for the augmented reality parts, PHP, MySQL, Bootstrap, jQuery for the website and adding new levels through the it.
