Abstract
The idea of the Eco-city comes to exist due to the massive need to it in this time. This need
comes from the continuous pressure on the natural resources which makes them prone to
extinction, and it was firstly discussed by Richard Register.
The purpose of this study is to show and emphasis that we have the opportunity to achieve the
consequences of the Eco-city with simple interventions and reasonable cost.
In Palestine we have a lot of different barriers and limitations from urban expansion, so once we
find a way to expand and build on the available land we take this chance regardless to the formal
legislation and without giving an attention to the environment and its elements which makes the
environment vulnerable and makes it threatened by our daily activities
Here we have a lot of cities and sites which have a very high environmental potential which
requires a special attention and cautious moves and interventions to save them, so that my first
step in this project to examine the Ecological potential in Westbank to apply the ten principles of
the Eco-city.
These criteria helped me to find out the highest Ecological potential in Westbank, which I will
do my interventions on it based on my knowledge and experience that I got in my study years.
The city that has the highest Ecological potential based on my site selection on the macro &
micro level is Selfit, these criteria on the two levels (Regional & local – Macro & Micro) helped
me to find out the highest Ecological potential in Westbank, which I will do my interventions on
it based on my knowledge and experience that I got in my study years.
These interventions should lead us to have a real feel and sense of the advantage and
opportunities that Eco-city offers by makes our environment safer, more beautiful, more reliable
and more sustainable.
The final output this project is a master plan (landuse, Suggested projects) comes after a long
process of analysis on four main components (Energy & Material flow, Infrastructure &
Transportation, Socio-economy and Urban Form & Structure), and this final output was formed
in a way that take into consideration these four components, so there are four themes in my final
master plan each one of them has its interventions and projects.
In order to ensure safe move to this kind of concepts we need to involve people continuously in
the process and increase their awareness about the importance of paying attention to our
environment which will ease the process and makes it more reliable
