| dc.description.abstract | Nablus city is one of the most active cities in West Bank. It has a unique location that connects it with many cites around, this location plays a very important role in many aspects of life. The residential and urban areas have expanded to the west of the city and thus increased amount of traffic, especially after the establishment of the new campus of An-Najah National University that caused many traffic problems. Malhees Street which is considered an urban collector is located in Wadi Al-Tuffah area and connects between Tunis Street and the western part of Nablus Ring Road which is leading to the northern entrance of the University with approximately 1400 m length and 12m width according to Master Plan (2015). In addition to this street, Yafa street was chosen with approximately 1300m length and 20m width which extends to the east of the roundabout that connects both Malhees and Yafa streets with Tunis street. There are several reasons that give this project a great importance, one of them is that over the last few years it has witnessed an increase in traffic and residential buildings in this area. Nablus Municipality plans to make Malhees street a major passage for taxis for transporting students to and from the university, so this will reduce the congestion on Tunis and Haifa streets. The second reason is that the existing of very poor geometric condition of Malhees street. Lastly, we suggest to make an exclusive taxi/bus lane in Yafa street which may decreases the delay. The same conditions are faced in Yafa street in terms of planning the public transportation facilities especially the taxis lane. The existing right of way were checked to accommodate three lanes (one exclusive for buses or taxis). The students intend to prepare a detailed geometric design for both streets considering the movement and circulation of the public transportation towards the new university campus. In order to achieve the project goal and objectives, the project team conducted field visited and recorded all existing and required data from the field visit to Malhees Street to determine the boundaries of the study area in order to prepare a report about the state of the street and to collect field data about flow of traffic on this street. Several problems were found such as drainage of water, the grade of a certain part of the street is not appropriate, some electric poles need to be shifted as well as problems in the road surface. The street needs to be expanded in its width to accommodate the increase in traffic and retaining walls will be established. Geometric, pavement, and traffic data were analyzed in order to solve these problems and redesign the street. | en_US |
