Abstract
Qabatia-Arab American University of Palestine -Jenin branch- Street is an important street in the area. Its importance comes from the fact that this street serves high volume of vehicles to and away from one of the biggest universities. However, the street currently has several problems including traffic and geometric problems. It is intended to improve the capacity and serviceability of the street through providing the required designs because of the expected growth and expansion of volume served by the street.
First, it is desired to collect all necessary data from field including road inventory, traffic volume at links and intersections, master plan of the street, volume of the students of the university especially from Qabatia, existing pavement and soil conditions using laboratory tests and other related information with the cooperation with AAUP, Qabatia Municipality, Ministry of Local Government, and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
Then, the design process will take place. The geometric design, pavement design, and traffic system will be designed according to specification and requirements of American Association of State Highway and Transformation Officials (AASHTO). The geometric design includes the horizontal alignment, vertical alignment, and cross section elements of the street using civil infrastructure design and documentation software (CIVIL 3D). The pavement design process demands visual inspection of the existing route and soil testing and classification to be able to make a proper design of pavement for 20 years. The traffic design will be implemented by marking, signing, and channelization. Finally, the direct cost of the rehabilitation process will be estimated.
At the end, it is expected to improve the level of service of the street from all aspects. Besides, the street should perform well according to standards.
