Abstract
This project presents a study of green buildings implementation in Palestine. The agenda of green buildings is to preserve all natures from the destruction by human activities. Also, green buildings provide healthy environment and human comfort at minimum cost of energy and other resources. Therefore, the green building concept for green residential is an alternative effort to decrease emissions footprint and improve quality of life. Green residential means applying the houses with a minimum energy, water and natural resources that provide good air quality and reduce wastes. This qualitative study aims to explore the perceptions of housing owners towards green residential development. Presently, the demand for green residential is very low because buyers hesitate to pay more costs for a green residential than a conventional house. This project is about the environmental, architectural and structural design of three residential buildings located in Hebron. These buildings are symmetrical in shape but not in orientation. Our surveys have proven that most of people have problems and complaints about their homes, it’s because their homes don’t achieve a high level of comfort due to lack of environmental design. These three buildings will be re-designed in order to achieve optimal performance and higher level of comfort Collection of general and specific information about residential buildings around the world generally, and in Palestine specially was considered in this project to cover most sides about these types of buildings. A questionnaires also was distributed among the residents of selected buildings in Nablus to realize their perception of the apartments they live in. The results will be taken into consideration to complete the new design for these buildings as an environmentally friendly buildings. The Palestinian green building in Palestine will be used as reference in our work to modify these buildings and to make them energy and water efficient. We will evaluate the energy and comfort performance of these buildings before and after modification through the use of thermal simulation.
