A high-rise building is chosen to be designed in a city where buildings are mostly 20-30m high, in order to introduce this type of structure to our community. High-rise buildings can be sufficient because they provide more living and/or working space on the same land, which is useful in a city that is highly populated and with limited possible land expansion because of occupation, such as Nablus. Another advantage of the building is that it has its own parking. It contains enough parking spaces for almost 50 cars, which is a big advantage especially for a city like Nablus where the parking problem is rapidly growing due to the narrow streets and the increasing number of cars. It also provides spaces for commercial shops and offices. It is comprised of three basements, ground floor, mezzanine floor, fifteen floors and two roofs. Each basement floor has an area of 720 m2. The ground and mezzanine floors have an area of 370 m2 each. The other floors have an area of 450 m2. On the other hand, designing a building this high is definitely a challenge, the plans need to be fully understood, which contain a ton of details, and all loads need to be accounted for. Our goal is to be safe but also efficient. Many important aspects will be covered in the project, such as project description, hypothesis - Goals and objectives, main assumptions and proof of results. The objective is to provide a safe and economical design of all structural elements, considering all possible loads, following modern structural codes and using computer programs while also performing manual checks then to provide practical, fully detailed structural drawings, which can be used later for a bid. All of this will be achieved by studying and understanding the project, estimating the different types of loads on the structure, assuming preliminary dimensions for structural elements. Then, modelling the structure on modern computer programs like ETABS, SAFE and SAP2000 based on the last updated global structural codes, such as ASCE7-10 ,ACI 318-11, IBC and so on. After obtaining analysis results, manual checks will be performed to ensure that the model is realistic and correct, in order to use these analysis results in performing manual calculations of required reinforcement and comparing it with the program’s results so that the final reinforcement from the program can be used and practical and easy-to-understand plans may be provided.en_US
