This project aims to develop spatial planning strategies that strengthen the connections and integration between Palestinian communities in the northern West Bank, with a focus on enhancing their resilience in the face of the various challenges imposed by the Israeli occupation. The selected site in the northern West Bank faces numerous geopolitical and economic challenges that hinder development and complicate the daily lives of Palestinians. The justification for choosing this site stems from the presence of bypass roads such as Route 60, Route 5, and Route 505, which divide the West Bank and isolate its northern part from its southern and central regions, thereby impeding movement and access to essential services. These roads, which primarily serve Israeli settlements, reduce the opportunities for developing Palestinian infrastructure and reinforce the isolation of Palestinian communities. Additionally, the geopolitical divisions of the land into Areas A, B, and C complicate governance and development, limit Palestinians' ability to build in Area C, and create a state of security and organizational instability in Area B. Furthermore, the spread of settlements in the region exacerbates discrimination and segregation, weakens the local economy by depleting natural resources such as water and agricultural land, and intensifies the occupation's efforts to confiscate more Palestinian land, threatening the demographic and geographical composition and weakening the Palestinian presence in the area. Given these challenges, the project's objectives include formulating plans to enhance cooperation between Palestinian communities, improving shared infrastructure, developing transportation networks, and strengthening the provision of essential services such as education and healthcare. The project also seeks to enhance stability and sustainable development in the region, thereby increasing the Palestinians' ability to remain resilient on their land. The planning concept is rooted in bolstering the resilience of Palestinian communities through 2040 by focusing on key areas such as promoting economic and urban integration, providing high-quality healthcare services, developing new service centers, creating job opportunities, and utilizing archaeological sites as tourist attractions, all contributing to comprehensive and sustainable development in the region.
