DESIGNING A FULLY AUTOMATED BLANKING AND BENDING PRODUCTION LINE

Door hinges are one of the most essential parts of home architecture. In addition, there is an increasing demand on door hinges as a main component used in carpentry works in Palestine. However, the hinges available in the market are imported from China, Turkey and there is no local production in Palestine. Therefore, designing a fully automated manufacturing line of door hinges can be beneficial for reinforcing the Palestinian industrial sector that lacks this type of production. In this project a comprehensive literature reviews were conducted on previously published work on all the steps, processes and parts needed in the production line to manufacture door hinges. This line is comprised of a series of workstations linked by a transfer system. A feeding mechanism of sheet metal is installed to feed forward the metal to the first station of blanking and piercing, followed by the bending station that provides the desired shape of the output. A feasibility study was conducted which include three stages: the first one is market study, that related to evaluate the local market using a survey that describes the status of the market. The second one is: Technical study, that describes the practical aspects, which contain technology requirements to the line that is a fully automated line which contains two main processes, blanking and bending that work by computer integration, we used feed track, conveyor system technology and strip feeder. the third one is: Financial study; to evaluate and analyze whether the project was successful, by the calculations related to finances, the project is profitable. In this project, the design of the line was conducted that shows calculations needed to obtain the forces exerted on the dies of blanking and bending according to the shape and dimensions of the hinge. Moreover, the required heat treatment is studied. The design of the line is illustrated with all of its components using SolidWorks that utilized to drawn and implement the automated line; it also supports animations that can be used in simulating the process of producing hinges.
