Abstract
The Faculty of Administrative and Economic Sciences is one of the main faculties at Al Quds Open University. The faculty meets the needs of the private and public sectors through the outputs prepared scientifically distinct, using modern administrative and economic methods. Also, it contributes to solving problems in the Palestinian Society. The most important criteria for designing any college is to provide a diplomatic secure, and adequate space to meet the required needs of students as well have been carried out in deep detail in this project. The principal targets of this project are to evaluate and afterward re-design the Faculty of Administrative and Economic Sciences at Al - Quds Open University-Nablus, in terms of environmental, architectural, structural, and safety fields according to specific codes and standards. Additionally, to present an integrated design that will serve all students, staff, as well as to achieve the most reasonable, safe, and innovative possible design for the proposed location. To achieve the proposed objective, the process of the design has been carried out through two major stages, the first stage has started with the evaluation of the old design of the faculty, which was done by gathering the requested data regarding the most recent integrated design and applying it to the Faculty of Administrative and Economic Sciences (literature review). This is accomplished by reading informative books, academic journals, and articles that are associated with the project. The architectural plans have been checked according to the latest design standards of the Faculty, which depends on the spaces’ needs, the relationships of spaces of various activities of the faculty. Information on design aspects have been carried out by gathering the literature and presenting a case study, in addition to studying the architectural design and compare it with standards. The associated elevation, sections, and examining the environmental design besides making structural checks have been performed. In the second stage, the Structural design process has been covered with full structural analysis, a 3D model, and seismic design of the college. In addition to Electro-mechanics systems design which were the main topics. This stage has contained the design of artificial lighting, power system, and acoustics. Furthermore, it has comprised the investigation of emergency escape-stairs as well as the fire safety system, not only that but also the HVAC system, water supply and sanitary systems have been discussed. Finally, quantity surveying and cost estimate tabular calculations were provided. 26 The proposed methodology included the use of various programs and software which were dealt with through the whole process of the project completion. For instance, “ETABS” software, which is one of the best software for analyzing and designing a completely safe and detailed structural design according to international standards is used. Also, “AutoCAD” was used to modify the faults and defects found in the old plans and then to draw and present the new redesigned plans, in addition to a full 3D model and environmental analysis using “Revit 2018”. Moreover, the “Design Builder” software tool was also used to provide thermal simulation as well as evaluation facade options in terms of overheating, energy consumption, and shading parameters. Furthermore, “Ecotect”, ”INSUL” and “EASE” programs were used to design and evaluate the elements of a space in terms of acoustics. Besides that, “DIALux” software which carried out a lighting simulation for designing the proper artificial lighting for the faculty’s spaces. Quantity surveying and cost estimate of the project were done also done using Excel software.
