Abstract
Multi-story buildings have recently become a demanding pattern in Nablus city. Such buildings serve more people in less spaces especially in crowded region like Nablus. However, the structural design of these buildings has challenging issues regarding location, architectural form and the functional use. For this reason, this project will focus on the structural analysis and design of 12-story residential building. The challenging issue is to provide safe and stable structure capable of serving 36 apartmentsin accordance with the architectural requirements. The proposed building, which is located in bait-wazan to the west of Nablus city, consists of 12 stories with proposed area of 455 m2for each story. The optimal design will consider the high-risk loads of lateral and gravity loads. For the structural system, structural walls and space frames will be used to in lateral force resisting system whilst gravity loads will solely be carried by space frames. For this structure, the architectural plans will be implemented in establishing the 3d-model. Finite element method will be used in analyzing the structure using computer software-ETABS. Each element of the structure is then either checked or designed for the main requirements of serviceability, strength and stability along with ACI 318-11 code and ASCE 7-10 standard. Manual analysis will also be addressed for the purpose of verification. In conclusion, the final design will provide at least one secure path for each point of loading. As expected, the seismic loads will govern the design of the structural elements. Also, the complete design will be detailed as per ACI 318-11 requirements in A3-size papers
