Abstract
Homer is a robot that brings entertainment, safety and security into every room of the user’s home. Homer is a wirelessly controlled wheeled robot with a mobile application which allows the user to move it around from room to room. It can also learn and map out the house and the rooms (kitchen, bedroom...) and move to them in an intelligent manner. Homer has 90-degree video projection and multimedia speakers which enable the user’s content, such as movies and music to be moved and played wherever it is desired at home without constraints. In addition to entertainment, Homer can provide home safety and security. Homer is equipped with a camera and various sensors. Homer allows the user to check-in remotely locally or using the internet, move it around and watch the live video feed from the camera which allows the user to monitor what’s going on at home. Homer will also capture vital information, such as temperature, humidity, motion, gas and noise levels. This information will be provided to the user as home analytics by the mobile application. The user will be alerted immediately in case of an emergency such as sudden changes in temperature which can indicate a fire or detection of unusual movement and sound which could mean an intrusion. The most important components in making this project are: A Raspberry Pi which handles the user input, camera, projector, speakers, sensors and movement. A mobile Application which gives the user the ability to control the robot and get information form it.
