Abstract
Over the past centuries, the agricultural sector is one of the most important sectors in Palestine because it has been contributing substantially to Palestinian exports, job creation and income. However, these days this sector is performing below expectations. This is mainly due to the restrictions that have been enforced by the occupation, such as restrictions on accessing to and using of agricultural land and obtaining permits for drilling wells. Restricting the construction of water collection structures affects farmers’ ability to irrigate their lands, so choosing an efficient way of irrigation will help them to go over the lack of water resources problem that has a major effect on the agricultural lands. One of the efficient irrigation methods that is used nowadays in Palestine is drip irrigation. Drip irrigation is a method of controlled irrigation that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either from above the soil surface or buried below the surface. The purpose of our project is to design an automated drip irrigation system that aims to Rationalize and control the amount of water used in irrigation. Briefly this will be done by reading the value of the soil moisture of the land periodically using a microcontroller and a soil moisture sensor and send these readings to the server using Wi-Fi module to manipulate them and then make the decision about the flow of the irrigation process (when to start and stop and for how long time). The complete process will be explained in the Methodology section. Designing our system requires building both software application (web application) and hardware system.
