Abstract
As part of building the capacity and knowledge of the students in special type of buildings and for the purpose of comparison between what is really constructed and the students work, the Optical and Nursing College at An-Najah National University-new campus, was selected as a graduation project to be structurally analyzed and redesigned. The building is composed of 7 floors with a total area of approximately 7810m^2. This project was proposed, because we think it will give us a good learning experience in the structural design for this important building Moreover, we believe that there is a challenge given all elements and parts of the building will be designed covering also the water tanks, the retaining walls and others. This graduation project will consist of two parts. The first part was done last semester ,that included a literature review of the analysis and design of all structural elements with explanation of the types and properties of the building materials and then the design theories and philosophy . Also the design codes that will be adopted including ACI 318-11 and UBC 97. In this part, a 3-D model was created to simulate the reality using ETABS 2016. The model was analyzed and designed for seismic loads following UBC97. Hand calculations were done to verify ETABS results, detailing will be drawn using AutoCAD.
