Abu Nawwas excelled in inverting facts and concepts, he revolted against costumes and traditions that his society had abided by, and also interpreted them in a way that concurs with his inverted logic and harmonizes with the rebellious self of his, which all made his art of a novel, unfamiliar color. This paper consists of three chapters where the first covers the manifestations of cognitive inversion and cultural confrontation in Abu Nawwas’s poetry particularly in the subject of religion. The second chapter deals with the manifestations of cognitive inversion and cultural confrontation in political and social subjects. Chapter three is specified to discuss the implications of cognitive inversion and cultural confrontation in Abu Nawwas’s language and his poetic color. The study finally came out as an introduction, a preface, three chapters and a conclusion.
