    Spatial Analysis of Administrative Divisions of the West Bank Lands since the Ottoman Rule Until the Year 2009

    This study aimed at studying the administrative divisions of the West Bank lands during temporal periods extended from the Ottoman rule since the advent of the Palestinian Authority in 1994. This study also aimed at manifesting the bases which the different administrative divisions relied on, and at analyzing the effect of the geographical variables on the administrative divisions in the Palestinian rule period for them. For conforming the goals of the study, the researcher followed both the analytic descriptive methodology depending on the searches studies and articles which manifested the administrative divisions of certain regions some Arab countries; and the statistical data and reports gathered from the concerned government departments and from the Palestine central statistics system. The statistical program SPSS 14 was used for analyzing and dealing with the data of study and ArcGIS 9.2 software for producing the maps. The most important results of the study are: 1. The administrative divisions in the Ottoman rule were not constant, and changed frequently. 2. The study results showed the Palestinian Administrative Divisions after 1994 had been affected by a group of the geographical variables. 3. The study results showed that the area of the governorates inside the West Bank hadn’t been affected by rainfall, and the relation between temperature and governorates area was negative. 4. The study showed that 17.5% of localities do not follow the nearest governorate center, which may affect the services offered for them. The study recommends that it is necessary to issue rules and laws that organize standards of administrative divisions, taking into account the physical and human characteristics of lands.
