Abstract
Within this architectural thesis, an exploration into the complications of urban design unfolds, diving into the essence of urban spaces and their historical evolution. The narrative takes an analytical journey through the definitions and classifications of urban spaces, tracing their historical roots and emphasizing their intrinsic importance. Concurrently, a parallel investigation into boulevards, promenades, and urban parks elucidates their pivotal role in fostering dynamic urban environments, providing a vital context for the ensuing discourse. Taking inspiration from the esteemed Parc Central in Guangzhou, China, the case study meticulously dissects its historical trajectory, design principles, and sustainability features—extracting practical wisdom to enrich the theoretical underpinnings of the thesis. Shifting focus to the specific project under consideration, a meticulous site analysis is unfurled, dissecting the geographical, contextual, and environmental intricacies poised to shape the design process. The narrative navigates through site location, contextual nuances, natural and man-made features, legal considerations, accessibility factors, climate peculiarities, sensory dimensions, and land evaluation—an exhaustive groundwork for subsequent project phases. Penetrating the core of the project, the program development phase takes center stage, exploring functional and operational requirements. Emerging from this exploration are a nuanced program matrix and functional relationships matrix, rooted in a profound understanding of the site's contextual dynamics. The establishment of design standards serves as a guiding beacon, steering the amalgamation of architectural and functional elements into a cohesive and purposeful synthesis. Grounded in theoretical frameworks, enriched by practical insights drawn from a significant case study, and shaped by site-specific considerations, this architectural thesis aspires to articulate an urban plaza and a cultural park that transcends mere functionality. It envisions a dynamic space not only addressing the inherent needs of Jenin City but also sparking a sense of community engagement, vitality, and a renewed urban identity.
