Summary of graduation project This study focused on systematic approach for optimization building’s external wall, roof and ceiling thicknesses, which composed of insulation material, concrete, rocks…etc, located in Palestine. Various methods had been adopted by researchers to calculate the optimum thickness that considered thermal conductivity of wall, building orientation effect, and heat gain or loss from the wall. The determination of the optimum thickness of the building wall material has major drawback on building and insulation material cost, energy consumption by air conditioning system, heat transfer coefficient of wall on heat and cool demand. Different cities with different climate zones have been selected for this study such as Nablus, Ramallah, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jericho, Salfite. The optimum thickness in these cities will be calculated and compared with required thickness in west bank energy saving standard. Obtaining optimum wall thickness has been a subject of interest for many years amongst the researchers. In 1999, a scholar from Berzeit University in Palestine, conducted a research on the optimum wall thickness, and he found that there is great potential to reduce heat and cooling demand by increasing the thickness of insulation layer and by using better material of concentration. Since 1999 too many parameters have been changed such as climate change, materials used in building construction and in insulation …etc. A new study on the optimum wall thickness must be conducted again.en_US
