Abstract
Delay in construction projects is one of the most important problems that leads to claims, lost in money, and waste of time. This study is about Delay in Construction Projects. It focuses on causes, factors, and effects of delay in construction projects. Many previous studies dealt with this problem before, trying to identify the delay, its causes, and effects. These studies suggested a set of recommendations to solve or at least to decrease delay in construction projects. To enrich this study, four previous case studies were reviewed and studied. These studies are: Delays in construction projects The case of Jordan. Delay mitigation in the Malaysian construction industry. Causes of delay in the planning and design phases for construction projects. Avoiding and minimizing construction delay claim disputes in relational contracting. A real case study will be taken in this research in order to pin point the actual reasons behind the delay in construction projects in Palestine, therefore Al-Mghayer school will be the research case. Al-Mghayer school project consist of two floors with 485 square meters for each floor of them. Al-Mghayer school project was started in 21.8.2011; the duration of the contract was 6 calendar months which mean that 18.2.2012 represented the official date to accomplish the project. For many reasons the date of the handing over delayed for 40 days. The methodology that the researcher will rely on for the upcoming analysis will consist of three parts: interviews, documentary analysis, and focus group. Interviews will be carried out to every one of the three main parties of the project: client, consultant, and contractor, except focus group will collect the three parties of the project at same the time.
