Abstract
The population of older people is increasing rapidly, and as people grow older they develop memory difficulties. Also, most of the elderly people live alone, some of them suffer from illness or disability, making it difficult to take care of themselves about medicine taking if require. So they might forget to take their medications on time or forget that they have already taken their medications. Moreover, they always keep their medications in the same place. So there is a high possibility that they will mix them or even take the wrong one. In addition, a lot of elders in Palestine have difficulties in reading or might be completely illiterate. Even if the old has a caretaker there’s nothing to guarantee that they do not miss doses of medicines, or do not take overdoses because at some point the responsible person or the caretaker may need to leave for some time.
The main objectives of this project are to design and build an electronic system, which can be installed in a medicine cabinet to keep track of a person's intake of medications. The design criteria to be followed include ease of use and reliability.
The main functionalities that will be covered in this project are medications reminder and follow up system.
In this project, the microprocessor that will be used is Arduino MEGA microcontroller to meet the required functionality of the device. Also the motor controller module, the pill box requires a stepper motor to divide the motion into small equal steps. And a sensor will be used to check if the doses had been taken by patient or not. In addition, there is an alarm module will provide an audible alarm tone. So, an electric buzzer and LEDs will be used.
