Abstract
Most water supply systems in urban areas face problems every day and these problems need to be resolved in a precise manner. In developing countries, WDN have many problems related to population, water scarcity, environmental management and pollution, etc. Moreover the WDN are affected of unexpected problems, such as; population growth which is a big problem in many cities around the world, because the minimum needs of each new citizen must be satisfied. In addition, problems resulting from the leakage and faults that lead to loss of water, and high maintenance costs. Research Objective The main objective of this graduation project is to assess the situation of the existing WDN of Marda village and to redesign the WDN by using WaterCAD software and satisfy the increasing population in the village. In specific, the following objectives will be achieved: 1. Evaluate the situation of the available water resources in Marda. 2. Estimate water consumption, demand and water losses in the existing WDN. 3. Assess the existing WDN in terms of velocity pressure. 4. Redesign of existing WDN to solve the existing problem and to supply water for the entire village with acceptable limit of velocity, pressure and demand. 5. To understand the situation of the collection and disposal of wastewater in Marda village. 6. To design wastewater collection system for Marda using sewerCAD software. Research Questions This research aim to redesign WDN, and at the end of this project these questions are assess and to be answered: 1. What are the problems that faced us in the existing WDN OF Marda? What are the causes of the problems? 2. What are the goals of the redesign of the WDN? Does there is a need to re-design?Expected Results The main result expected at the end of this project is to provide Marda village council with a detailed design of WDN that satisfy the existing and future demand in the village and to face all the problems resulting from the increasing population. Moreover this project aims to improve people life style and the quality of the environmental conditions, also to ensure a long-term benefit for the consumers and to ensure a long-term availability and sustainability of water supply including the conservation of water.
