Due to the increase in traffic crashes in the recent period and the importance of ensuring traffic safety, this study was conducted to contribute to the national efforts to improve traffic safety. The research was selected to be investigation of black spots. The western part of the Nablus City was selected to be the study area which is bounded by Al-Salam Mosque (Prince Mohammad Street) in the east and Beit Wazan/Beit Iba /Zawata villages in the west. Due to the lack of national standards and criteria, the team searched for the methods used to identify black spots in many developed and surrounding countries. The team chose Austrian standards that take into account the traffic volume and the number of crashes during the last three years as the criteria to identify black spots, and compared the outcome with that considering the national Palestinian criteria that take into account the number of crashes and injures during the last year. The results of comparison indicated that the outcome of the Palestinian criteria are close to those considering the Austrian criteria for the identification of the locations that were classified as black spots. The team collected all the necessary data for this study from the traffic police and obtained traffic volumes from previous studies, and then analyzed these applying the Austrian & Palestinian criteria then identified the black spots within study area. The locations identified as the most severe the black spot include Rafidia Street, Jaffa Street and Haifa Street. The team proposed solutions for the most severe places in order to reduce the number of crashes that may occur for those areas, then the team identified recommendations to the official’s authorities to be implemented.en_US
