dc.description.abstract | The project to revive the abandoned village of Beit Jibrin is an initiative aimed at combating Israeli settlement expansion. It represents a form of resistance against the occupier’s arrogant policies of ethnic cleansing inflicted on the Palestinian people since the beginning of the Palestinian Nakba (since 1948). The idea for this research emerged from the reality experienced by the Palestinian people and the difficulty of exercising even their most basic rights. It aims to document the events of 1948 and shed light on what happened in the village at that time, which is no different from what Palestinian individuals endure in their homeland today. This project seeks to highlight this daily suffering and convey to the world the Palestinian message: that this land is solely theirs, and it is their homeland and home. Resurrection of the Ruins - Reviving the Village of Beit Jibrin This project is part of a strategy to revive and rehabilitate the village, preparing it to be fully ready to welcome refugees after liberation. The village of Beit Jibrin, part of the Hebron district, has historically represented Palestinian strength and might. One of the village's names, "Beit al-Jabbarin," reflects not only the formidable character of its residents and their resistance throughout history but also their strength in trade. The name was not given by chance but rather signifies the power and resilience that have always been a part of the village's identity. The project represents a storytelling museum that narrates the history of Beit Jibrin. The museum is established on the ruins of the old town of the village, which was destroyed by the occupation forces during their attack and partially buried after the residents were displaced. The walls of the village houses stand as witnesses to the forced displacement and ethnic cleansing carried out by the occupiers. This project is considered a crucial aspect of supporting the village’s future self-sufficiency. It plays an important role in the village's income by revitalizing it through tourism, alongside the existing tourist lodgings. Directly linked to the museum is a central traditional market for the village, which restores its commercial strength and vitality that it once had. This market aims to make the village a primary destination for traders and a secondary one for residents of neighboring villages. It will reinstate the village’s former prominence and commercial activity that was taken away by the occupation. | |
