Abstract
The project idea is to design and fabricate a high speed rotating beam fatigue testing machine. Fatigue failure is an important phenomenon in material science, mechanical engineering and takes a good place in research and development. This project covers a need for the material properties lab in An-Najah National University. In addition to provide the future coming student with a new testing apparatus that explains fatigue behavior of material and illustrates many aspects and factors that affect this type of failure. On the other hand this project is considered a good exercise and practice for the project team, starting from studying fatigue, to design and manufacturing a machine.The project started with literature review for fatigue testing methods. Then, a preliminary design for the machine was prepared to determine the working principles, functions, and the structure of the machine, also to choose the best fatigue tests that will help the students to better understand the fatigue phenomena. Moreover, the requirements of these tests were specified as a first step in the design process.The next stage would be a complete and detailed design for the machine; which means performing the kinematic, kinetic, and all necessary stress calculations, as well as, preparing a 3D CAD drawings for the machine. Following that, the fabrication of the machine will start. Later, calibration and test of the machine will be performed. Finally, compare the results with published data, and prepare handouts for the experiments.This project was not accomplished before; we hope to make a good addition to the facilities of the engineering faculty, and we ask Allah to help us to finish the project as best as we can.
