Abstract: Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were prevalent components of indoor air pollution and harmful for human and the surrounding ecosystem. Naphthalene is as aromatic VOCs that causes damage to the liver and serious diseases such as cancer. Photo-degradation is one of the promising methods for VOCs mitigation. In this study, TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were in-house prepared by the sol gel method with a molar ratio of isopropyl alcohol to water mixture (1:1). The XRD spectra demonstrated anatase phase of TiO2 NPs. whereas, the SEM images represented regular cubic morphology of purchased TiO2 NPs and irregular cubic shape for in-house prepared TiO2 NPs. Then we incorporated the in-house prepared TiO2 NPs and the purchased TiO2 NPs in the paint as additives. The paints with the incorporated nanoparticles were painted on cubes of concrete. The photo-degradation efficiency was studied by immersing these cubes in naphthalene solution and expose them to led light through a set-up that was prepared for this purpose. Then, regeneration was done for the concrete cubes through exposing the cubes to the led light in a dry media. The characterization of TiO2 nanoparticles were done by two tests, X-ray diffraction method (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A comparison was made between the paint with the incorporated purchased TiO2 NPs and in-house TiO2 NPs in terms of efficiency of degradation of naphthalene. The results were as follows, the % Removal of naphthalene with the purchased TiO2 NPs was 1.26% and after regeneration 4.4%. However, the %Removal of naphthalene with the in-house TiO2 NPs was 1.27% and after regeneration it was 5.97%.en_US
