Abstract
With the growing cost of fuel, increasingly strongest home construction codes, and scientific evidence that CO2 emissions shall be reduced, engineers and homeowners are turning to "Passive House" specifications to design and build their new homes. Passive Houses use 80 to 90 percent less energy for heating and cooling. Passive solar building is the building which depends on solar energy as an initial source for energy. It benefits from solar energy in winter and rejects its bad effect in summer. A Passive house can guarantee an important energy saving by utilizing a high quality ventilation system and building components. That will not cause any comfort cut back, but in the contrary it will considerably increase comfort. Many different architectural, structural, mechanical and environmental criteria must be balanced in order to provide high quality and comfortable building that also complies with the building local regulations. Nowadays, passive house pays more attention to these issues. Passive house in particular uses many key elements such as: air tight construction, heat recovery ventilation, windows and insulation. Each element works at a high precise level to produce high level of comfortable. The air tight construction prevents building damage due to condensation and maximizes efficiency of ventilation system. The heat recovery ventilation system on the other hand gives excellent air quality by exchanging continuously fresh air. Finally, windows and insulation are greatly improving U-values and Net-solar heat gains as possible. This research aims to design a passive villa in Tulkarm. In the research, the best architectural, structural and mechanical requirements will be chosen. This requirement will guarantee the best environmental targets for the passive villa. To achieve this objective, the research was done on a literature review as a first step. Then, a case study analysis to understand how such type of buildings works. In addition to that, a site analysis will be done accordingly the project program will be proposed.
