dc.description.abstractEnergy efficiency for Jawwal’s TBSs by using Photovoltaic system Communication networks operators are always seeking to increase their services capacity to cover the most areas. especially for the remote area where the grid extension is not available due to some reasons which represented in the difficulty of the installing an electricity grid in these areas because of the high cost and the long transmission lines, also in Palestine especially there is a special reason which is the occupation and its force on the energy sector and the restrict of the transmission electricity in all regions of the west bank.so the renewable energy is the most suitable solution for these issues either in the economic side or in the environmental side.in addition, the high energy consumption by these networks is a big challenge to the communication network. The main reason for this high consumption is a cooling system inside these stations so saving energy is needed for these stations. The cooling energy consumption takes up around 30–50% of the total consumption of TBS due to the inefficient cooling system. Free cooling is an effective solution for reducing the power consumption of cooling systems. Also the photovoltaic solar energy appears as the most attractive solution to answer the energetic requires of a telecommunications base station and to satisfy the needs of isolated uses, as is the case on many areas in our country. This paper explains the possibility of applying direct free air cooling in TBSs and its noticeable energy saving results which are expected to be between 20% - 45% with payoff period less than two years. It is also presents the best design to transfer all beneficial energy from Photovoltaic power system (PV) to TBSs. The proposed PV system will be hybrid PV/Diesel system with backup batteries for the TBSs. The software used in getting results is HOMER. The calculations were done for a TBS in a remote area in Nablus with a monthly consumption of 1399 KWh, a PV system with diesel generator and batteries was designed for the project to make sure that no interruption for the TBS is occurred. Finaly an economic analysis for the system was done with a life time of 20 years. The diesel generator will work all the time nearly 12 hrs/day with 1Liter consumption for 10KWh/day, the yearly consumption for the diesel generator was about 21900 KWh/year, 2190 Liter/year with 20.28$/L. The total price for the hybrid PV system was about 48020$ with annual savings of 7543.75$ for 20 years.en_US

dc.supervisorAbstract In this research, we study the feasibility of the electric and hybrid cars in compression with the fuel one in Palestine from economically and environmentally view. Economically, by calculated total cost of ownership (TCO). Environmentally, by calculated the amount of the carbon dioxide emissions released. We started by doing a survey about the car types in Palestine and the most common ones. Then we took all the information about each type of cars from different companies like Nissan , Hyundai , etc as the Purchase price, Licence and the annual operation cost like fuel consumption, maintenance, insurance. After that we analyzed the data and calculated the TCO for each car in two scenarios , first one for the Cash Prices and the second one is payment in installments with the travels 10,000 km/year, 20,000 km/year and finally 30,000 km/year. Finally, we draw the curves to view the results, which indicate that the electric cars are visible if the car travels anuualy more that 10,000 km. from environmet view, the amount of carbon dioxide released are more than gasoline cars and that is because of the uses of the fossil fuels to generate electricity here in Palestine.en_US
