dc.description.abstractIn last semester, a research was carried out to optimize the process of fresh water production by thermochemical cycles. Hydrated salts used were sodium sulphate decahydrate (Na2SO4.10H2O), magnesium chloride hexahydrate (MgCl2.6H2O) and alum or potassium aluminium sulphate dodecahydrate (KAl (SO4)2.12H2O). The salts were dried using an oven at 100 ºC, then these salts were hydrated in steam generator until saturation. Weight change (gain during hydration and loss during dehydration) was recorded for each salt. This cycle was repeated for each salt until no more significant weight change was observed. Sodium sulphate has passed 20 cycles and it still performs well, but magnesium chloride performance dropped dramatically through the 4th cycle whereas alum passed only 3 cycles with sample grinding but only 2 cycles without grinding. In this semester, fresh water was produced after improving the process using a reactor, but it gave unsatisfying results .Then a box of two stages (hydration and dehydration) was designed, made and used and successfully gave some fresh water.en_US
