Abstract
This thesis presents the design and development of "Journey Beyond the Wounds," a rehabilitation center dedicated to supporting war survivors. The project addresses the multifaceted needs of individuals affected by conflict, providing comprehensive care that encompasses physical, psychological, and social rehabilitation. The center aims to create a nurturing environment where survivors can embark on a transformative journey from trauma to recovery and reintegration into normal life. Historical Context and Importance For the past 75 years, Palestine has endured a series of conflicts that have left a profound impact on its people. The persistent state of unrest has resulted in widespread trauma, injuries, and disabilities among the population. This rehabilitation center is crucial in addressing the urgent need for specialized care and support for war survivors. By offering a holistic approach to rehabilitation, the center not only aids in the physical recovery of individuals but also fosters psychological healing and social reintegration, contributing to the overall resilience and well-being of the community. Site Selection The chosen site for the rehabilitation center is located in Jenin, West Bank. The area is characterized by its sloped terrain, with the entrance situated at a higher level. This strategic location provides both aesthetic and functional advantages, offering a serene environment conducive to healing while ensuring accessibility and integration with the surrounding community. The site's natural topography and context have been thoughtfully considered to enhance the therapeutic experience for the patients. Project Program The rehabilitation center comprises five main blocks, each designed to cater to specific stages of the recovery journey. These include: Foundation of Hope (outpatient clinics, lobby, and entrance), Strength Rebuild (Physical Therapy), Spirit Restoration (Psychological Therapy), Pathways to Independence (Occupational Therapy and Workshops), Harmony with Life (Visitors Section) This comprehensive program ensures a well-rounded approach to rehabilitation, addressing the diverse needs of war survivors. Design Concept The architectural design symbolizes the path to recovery, with each block representing a different phase of rehabilitation. The layout emphasizes progression and transformation, guiding patients through their journey from crisis to normalcy. Therapeutic gardens, water elements, and green spaces create a peaceful and restorative environment, while entertainment and social interaction spaces support healing through leisure and community engagement. The center's design reflects the resilience and hope
