Abstract
Palestine faces fundamental challenges in the public transportation sector due to occupation policies that have dismantled infrastructure and imposed restrictions on the movement of citizens between Palestinian cities. These policies have not only affected Palestinians’ freedom of movement but have also weakened the social and economic connections between communities, creating a significant gap in urban and regional development. This research aims to offer a sustainable solution to this issue through the design of a modern railway station in the city of Acre (Akka), serving as a central hub for Palestine’s future railway network and contributing to rebuilding the connection between cities after liberation. With the restoration of national sovereignty and the return of Palestinian refugees to their homeland, Palestine will face a new challenge in the form of significant population growth. This increase will require fundamental improvements in infrastructure, especially in the transportation sector, to meet the needs of both the local population and the returning refugees. Therefore, the railway station in Acre becomes a strategic project that not only addresses current needs but also prepares for future demands, enhancing intercity integration and relieving pressure on traditional modes of transportation. The city of Acre was selected due to its strategic geographical location along the coast and its historical role as a key gateway for connection between northern and southern Palestine. Its proximity to cities such as Haifa and Nahariya makes it a natural center for a future transportation network. The project aims to capitalize on these advantages by offering a design that merges functionality with aesthetics, while committing to environmental and social sustainability. The proposed station design offers an integrated environment that meets the diverse needs of passengers. It features wide platforms to accommodate the increasing number of users, comfortable waiting halls that enhance the passenger experience, modern ticket offices that streamline movement, and commercial and service spaces that support the local economy. Additionally, the project incorporates green areas and eco-friendly facilities, reinforcing sustainability and creating harmony between infrastructure and nature. Beyond its functional role, the Acre Railway Station aspires to become a symbol of Palestinian unity and connection—rebuilding the ties that were severed by occupation and strengthening the communication between various communities. This project presents a future vision for transportation in Palestine, laying the foundation for a sustainable, integrated network that contributes to economic and social growth and fulfills the aspirations of the Palestinian people in building a progressive and prosperous nation.
