dc.description.abstractThis project will apply numerical methods to study the optimum insulation thickness of material for buildings located in Palestine for both heating and cooling systems. Also ,this project should help in quantifying the economics of wall insulation thickness on reducing energy consumption that is electrical or fossil fuel source. Additionally, different types of insulation material will be examined, such as; polystyrene and polyurethane, based on payback period and life cycle savings. Other parameters considered which might increase the heating and cooling losses such as; the effect of wall orientations. A MATLAB codes will be generated by benefiting from all information gathered in this period of project. According to our knowledge, this project has not been done before in Palestine. Life cycle savings of the insulated buildings are computed for Palestine. Savings between 35-140 $/m2 for heating diesel, 7-50 $/m2 for heating electricity, 4-7 $/m2 for cooling, 4-8 $/m2 for heating and cooling of wall area are possible for polystyrene, Savings between 30-130 $/m2 for heating diesel, 7-40 $/m2 for heating electricity, 0-4$/m2 for cooling, 2-8 $/m2 for heating and cooling of wall area are possible for polyurethane. Payback periods between 0.9-2.5 years for heating diesel, 0.9-2.3 years for heating electricity, 2-3 for cooling, 3-5 for heating and cooling for polystyrene, payback period between 0.9-2 years for heating diesel, 1-4 years for heating electricity, 3-7 years for cooling, 3-7 years for heating and cooling for polyurethane. Use of polystyrene material is better because it has a less money recovery period and savings in it are better than polyurethane and also the price of polystyrene is lower.en_US
