In general, the project represent a measurement of bearing capacity of soil (comparison between field and lab test) and make a soil treatment recommendation for the soil depending on results, the field test available on our country is plate bearing test and the lab test performing to calculate the shear strength parameters (c, ) depending on in situ soil. The bearing capacity is the potential of soil to hold the forces from super structure without excessive settlement, the foundation of the structure, highways and other infrastructure related to soil is need to determine the bearing capacity, so knowing  bearing capacity is very essential for Geotechnical engineering  Chapter Two describes the basic concept of bearing capacity, philosophy of settlement, effect of stress on the soil and the mathematical equation to calculate it also describe some of field tests using for measurement of bearing capacity. Chapter Three summarizes the mechanism of soil shear strength, and its the cohesion and the angle of friction and characteristics of soil and clarifies the shear strength of soil. Moreover, identifying empirical equations, which is used for calculating the shear strength of soil and the end of the chapter some of lab test related to shear strength. Chapter Four reviews of the plate bearing test, specification and procedure according to ASTM code D1194, describe the dimension and characteristics of the plate bearing test and methodology used to applied the tests. In project two of this project, plate bearing test will be performed in site, and the same time samples will be taken from the site to carry laboratory test to compare the results between field and lab.
