Abstract
This project aims to analyze, design and set the suitable procedure for constructing an
artificial island that will be a seasonal (tourist) island. The suggested location of the
artificial island in our project is at Al-Aqaba Gulf – Red Sea side.
Red sea coast was selected between other seas around the world because it is considered
as a connection between Africa and Asia and its importance in attracting many tourists
from all over the world.
There are many challenges faced this project. First: Seismic forces because this area is
active seismically. Second: the pressure from water made the design different and harder
than conventional pressure. So, all water wave characteristics like height and speed are
collected for the appropriate design of the proposed artificial island.
In this project the proposed method will be used in building the artificial island is a large
Diameter Steel Cellular Cofferdams because it's an innovative, fast tracked and suitable
for the nature of Al-Aqaba Gulf.
The suggested shape of the artificial island is circular shape even fits the available space,
with surface area equal to 30000 m2
(3 hectare).
The island is located about 200 m from the beach. To facilitate access to the island, ships
and boats will be used as a mode of transportation because it’s a cheap mode and to add
some fun and entertainment for visitors instead of using the bridge.
