Abstract
Nablus is one of the major cities in Palestine. The vitality of Nablus refers to its importance in the residential, economic and educational aspects. The road network which lies adjacent to Al-Quds Open University (AOU) will be studied well to improve its efficiency for operational traffic and all users. An efficient road way network will be free of potential troubles and negative aspects such as congestion, traffic delay, accidents, and fuel consumption. This project will discuss the geometric and traffic operational aspects based on American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)standards. The study will cover several aspects such as “Highway classifications”, Lane width, Super elevation, grade, medians, pavement markings, channelization, traffic control devices, design speed, and others. Since this region is recently used by traffic .besides the potential increment of such traffic however ,The main objective of this study is to improve the level of service and efficiency for the roadway networks. This could be recognized through minimizing travel time, minimizing the probable accidents, and develop the operational movement for that roads which connecting between Beit-Eba Roundabout, Al-Quds Open University & mokhayam Al’ain. The objective of this study could be achieved through definite procedures. The first step is to make a clear definition for the problems relating to the specified road way network. Visiting the region is very beneficial to gather data about this roadway network. Gathering the essential data about the geometric aspects and traffic operational aspects will be proceeded and documented. Traffic volumes at several intersections and all dimensions for all facilities will be documented. Then all gathered data will be analyzed, then remedial actions will be applied to enhance the efficiency of the roadway network in addition, all geometric and traffic control devices should be projected at the network. There were similar several studies being done, but not exactly for the above specified region.
