Abstract
Project aim:
People, as they grow up, they face ups and downs, different phases and turning points, all of these cooperate to create a person's personality and this is just like what happened with the art of cinema. At the beginning it has been ignored by most of the people but then things have changed and the art of cinema flourished.
As museum is a cultural, educational and entertaining institution, it reflect the past, present and the future of society. Museum have a lot of aims and services to the general public, they don't only concern about preservation of artistic wealth, but also deepening the artistic culture. Museums are one of the means of service that every citizen at the community should have in order to get the required science, culture and knowledge through observation, also to make sure that the heritage is remembered and preserved especially among the young generation for the purpose of studies, education and enjoyment. After all of what have been said earlier this led to the importance of cinema museum, to encourage the young generation to feel and live the cinema experience that they lack nowadays and to see how the art of cinema flourished through time from simple techniques to the birth of modern cinema art.
Project location:
The selected site is located in the middle between Beit Wazan and Nablus City center, at the end of Tunis Street and surrounded by for streets.
Project Concept:
The concept started by dividing the project into three main zones which are:
Exhibition halls: Permanent exhibition halls, temporary exhibition halls and external exhibition.
Cinemas.
Cultural activities.
And as the main point in museums is circulation, also to encourage people to walk through, around and inside the project, curved lines were used. The project style was so different than the context and this will play a very good role in attracting people to come in.
Project keywords:
• Free flowing lines.
• Sculptural and iconic building.
• Creating platforms and public areas that encourage interaction.
Zoning and function:
The project has three entrances and a big shell with shading connecting all the masses. The project consist of 4 floors, a basement which has a parking for 120 car, mechanical and technical rooms, storage and security.
There are two cinemas just next to each other's, each one of them has a little bit different capacity (one of them has about 270 seats while the other is about 245 seats).
In front of the cinema complex mass there is also a two floors mass consisting of a cafeteria at the ground floor and two conference halls at the first floor.
The main big mass has 3 floors, it has a big double volume with a ramp for circulation around the double volume (the main vertical circulation at the project) and in the middle there is a hologram zone. The ground floor consist also of administration, research and documentation section, maintenance and restoration, library, souvenir shop and exhibition halls. The first floor is mainly exhibition halls beside the cinema complex and the conference halls. The second floor consist of exhibition halls and a darkroom.
