Abstract
The study aimed to testing the effectiveness a Group Therapy Program based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in reducing anxiety among parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The sample that the study was conducted on was a group of 20 participants of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder that attend therapy sessions at Sanad Association for children with special needs in Nablus. The group of participating parents was randomly distributed into two groups: The experimental group that had 10 parents and received a group counseling program for 13 sessions; the control group that had 10 parents and didn’t receive the CBT counseling program. The two groups had the level of anxiety checked before and after the intervention. After the statistical analysis was conducted, the results emphasized that the group counselling program was effective in reducing the level of generalized anxiety in the favor of the experimental group. The researcher recommends to conclude parents with parallel counseling programs side by side with their child therapy. That will lead into a better mental health and resilience within the family members and with that being done, it can help improving the therapeutic process
