Abstract
The availability of electricity is one of the main determinants of economic development and prosperity in society. With the course of time, the rapid development, the technological innovation, the demand for electric power has increased and its uses have raised up. This study is concerned with the descriptive analysis of electricity consumption in Nablus city using the GIS program as a smart cities application. Nablus city was divided into five geographic regions, each of which is equipped with electric power through an independent link point. It is of paramount of importance to mention that, the factors affecting the consumption of electricity were analyzed, and these are: Area of service, number of individuals, number of actual contributions and analysis of the economic activity of these areas. The results of the study showed that Howara connection point -a city locates south Nablus- covering the eastern part of the city, is the most consumed by electricity, according to the factors. The average share of the consumption of a square meter for the same point was 7.7 KWH, while the average for the city was 4.7 KWH. Whereas, the average annual per individual's portion was 976 KWH, the average per individual's portion of the city is 985 KWH. It is to be mentioned that, the high consumption rates explain the existence of high industrial loads covering 26% of the area of the elements in the area of service, in addition to the presence of areas with high population density such as camps with an area of 8% of the area of service. Also, the prosperous Commercial activity in the region is estimated by 5% of the scope of service
