This study addresses an integrated architectural project aimed at designing a model hospital in
the eastern part of Nablus. This area suffers from a severe shortage of health services and a lack
of specialized hospitals despite its high population density. The study begins with a
comprehensive review of the history of hospital development from ancient times to the modern
era, highlighting the pioneering Islamic experience in health infrastructure. It also discusses the
development of the health sector in Palestine and the challenges it faces, particularly in light of
the current political and economic conditions. It presents a detailed analysis of the distribution of
hospitals in the West Bank and the extent of disparities in per capita access to health services.
The study draws on a case study of a modern hospital in China as a model for integrating
medical, environmental, and architectural standards. It then proceeds to a comprehensive
analysis of the selected project site, focusing on the geographical, demographic, and
environmental factors that influence the design decision. The study also includes a detailed
architectural program that defines the necessary functions and spaces in the hospital, based on
international standards in medical design, while taking into account the psychological and
functional aspects of patient and staff comfort.
At the end of this project, a contemporary architectural vision was developed for the proposed
Ebal Hospital in Nablus, taking into account the city's local character and the growing health
needs of its population. This project represents a strategic step toward improving the
governorate's health infrastructure and serves as a symbol of the integration of sustainable design
and community service.
