Abstract
This study examines the translation quality assurance system used in Smartcat, a computer-assisted translation platform used by professional translators to help facilitate and speed up the translation process. The error analysis uses Çetiner's model (2021), in which he classified translation errors into four main categories: linguistic, terminological, and formatting and workflow. Then the researcher compares the results with professional translation standards like ISO 17100 and ISO 18587. The researcher expands the scope of the analysis by adding errors beyond the surface level of Çetiner’s classification. The study also explores how the translation memory tool interacts with the quality assurance system. The study adopts a descriptive, evaluative design, and a qualitative approach to identify, classify, and interpret errors. The severity of errors was measured according to their impact on the understanding and meaning of the sentence. The results show that the highest percentage of errors in the Smartcat platform were terminological errors, followed by linguistic errors and then formatting errors, most of which were not detected by the translation quality assurance system. The results did not reveal any errors in the system related to the translation memory. The results also show that Smartcat translation quality assurance system was not fully compatible with ISO translation standards. The study recommends incorporating human expertise into the translation evaluation process of computer-assisted translation tools to ensure reliable results.
