After the failure to obtain recognition of a Palestinian state at the ‎Security Council, the PLO ‎declared that a bid will be submitted to the ‎UN General Assembly for obtaining the status of an ‎observer state under ‎occupation.‎ Due to the budget deficit that the Palestinian Authority suffers from and ‎the rise in prices of ‎commodities, protests ensued from some citizens and ‎some trade unions. Protestors called for the ‎cancellation or amendment ‎of the Paris protocol so that Palestinian economy will not continue to ‎be ‎dependent on the Israeli economy. ‎ There was also some talk about laying out a plan to substitute the Oslo ‎Accord or to amend some ‎of its items.‎ The state of division between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip still ‎persists; both sides still adhere ‎to their positions and no signs to indicate ‎that the end the division is imminent. ‎en_US
