Abstract
This study examines the Generative-AI (Gen-AI) adoption effects on individual performance (IP) in software development companies, Gen-AI is an emerging technology and subset of artificial intelligence that can be used to generate human-seeming content like text, codes, and images that can be used directly to do a certain task or as input to another task. This new technology affects human performance. Thus, the study aims to be a cornerstone for other studies in the field of human performance in the new context of Gen-AI by answering the two defined research questions, first one is to confirm if Gen-AI adoption in the workspace affects IP and the other one is related to the role of the experience (EX) on Gen-AI adoption. A quantitative research method was employed to answer the questions. Data collection was based on a survey targeting software engineers in Palestine and a sample size was defined as 100 responses with a response rate was about 73%. PLS-SEM was used to do a meticulous analysis to confirm the hypothesized conceptual model's reliability, validity, fit, and collinearity. The most important finding was that the adoption of Gen-AI improved IP as the use of Gen-AI fit most of the software engineering tasks and opposite to what was hypothesized the EX didn’t significantly contribute to the adoption of Gen-AI and IP. Such findings confirm the purpose Gen-AI was created for, where there is no need to have the EX to adopt Gen-AI, and once it is adopted the IP will be improved, the findings allow the organization to customize its version of Gen-AI to maximize its effect on the IP, reinforce the organization decision makers to do right decisions regarding staffing, growth, and others, and it opens doors for future research on the human performance and Gen-AI. The study is important as it explains the impact of Gen-AI on software engineers performance in Palestine, a region where the integration of advanced technologies and a large amount of skilled software engineers could significantly allow the understanding of this effect and provide valuable insight into how Gen-AI can improve the performance and productivity. additionally, the study findings offer a guide to companies on how to maximize their performance.
