Abstract
This thesis examines the role of test anxiety among Tawjihi students in Nablus, Palestine, as perceived by English language teachers and students in public and private schools. The study aims to explore the level of test anxiety experienced by Tawjihi students and identify potential demographic factors that contribute to this anxiety. A total of 295 participants, including 50 English language teachers and 245 Tawjihi students, completed a 33-item questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The results indicate a high degree of test anxiety among Tawjihi students in both public and private schools, as perceived by teachers and students in Nablus. The findings also reveal significant differences in test anxiety levels based on demographic variables. Specifically, there were statistically significant differences related to class, favoring the perceptions of teachers, and branch, favoring students in scientific and literary branches. However, no significant differences were found based on gender, kind of school, or place of residence. The implications of these findings are significant. By understanding the factors that contribute to test anxiety among Tawjihi students, educators and policymakers can develop targeted interventions to support students in managing their anxiety and improving their performance on the Tawjihi exam. The study highlights the need for teachers to provide guidance on exam preparation and strategies for coping with test anxiety during this critical educational stage. Based on the study's results, several recommendations are suggested. These include the development of appropriate exams that address the needs and concerns of Tawjihi students, providing support and guidance to students on how to manage test anxiety, and the importance of further research in this area. By implementing these recommendations, educators and policymakers can create a supportive and conducive environment for Tawjihi students, enabling them to overcome test anxiety and achieve academic success. In conclusion, this thesis sheds light on the role of test anxiety among Tawjihi students in Nablus, Palestine, as perceived by English language teachers and students. The findings contribute to our understanding of test anxiety in this context and provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers. By addressing test anxiety effectively, we can create an educational system that nurtures students' well-being and enhances their academic achievements.
