dc.description.abstract | This study aimed at investigating the Perception of engineering students towards English for Specific Purposes course on improving their reading comprehension of engineering texts at An- Najah National University in Nablus City. Also, it aimed at determining the effect of independent variables: gender, study year, English language level, and Cumulative Average on their perception towards the effectiveness of English for specific purposes course on improving their Reading Comprehension of different engineering texts. This study attempted to answer two main questions: What is the perception of engineering students towards English for specific purposes course in improving their reading comprehension of engineering text? And Are there any significant differences in students' perception towards the effectiveness of the English for specific purposes course due to the students' gender, study year, English language level and the cumulative average variables? To achieve the goals and answer the questions of the study the researcher used a questionnaire. The population of the study consisted of (300) of engineering students at An-Najah National University in Nablus city and the sample consisted of (155) students who were chosen randomly. The findings of the study showed that Engineering students have a positive perception towards the effectiveness of English for specific purposes course on improving their reading comprehension. Based on these findings the researcher recommended including the ESP courses in various academic specializations since they are effective in increasing the students' reading comprehension, teachers should modify the material to be appropriate for the engineering field. The researcher also suggested conducting more research on the effectiveness of using the ESP courses on improving the reading comprehension skills on other subjects. | en_US |
