Abstract
It is a project that studies hospital design, specifically a cancer hospital. The
beginning of the research includes the definition of hospitals, their origin and
development through the ages, leading to hospitals in the sense that we know today.
In addition, clarifying its origin in Palestine and the statistics of cancer patients in
Palestine.
Then to the analysis of case studies to delve deeper into how hospital spaces are
designed to suit patients. With clarification of some of the most important dimensions
of the rooms and their areas, and clarification of the design program, and mentioning
the most important foundations of the hospital’s architectural design and functional
relationships.
Then we start analyzing the site chosen for the design, which is in Asira Al-Shamaliya
on top of a mountain with a wide and beautiful view. Finally, the results of the
research are the design, which achieved the standards of green architecture from
appropriate ventilation to natural lighting and alternative energy from placing solar
cells on the roofs of some blocks and using sustainable materials from natural stone,
wood and others. In addition to the use of double doors to maintain the internal heat
of the building.
Also, with the spread of Corona in previous years and the policy of social divergence,
people have become disliked and may even be alienated from narrow places for
diapers at an appropriate distance to prevent the transmission of the disease.
Therefore, the design of spaces in the hospital, especially the public spaces and wide
corridors, allowed the movement of patients and visitors freely without worry.
It also relied on biophilic architecture, a concept that aims to create architectural
environments that enhance communication and connection between humans and
nature. The term “biophilia” is derived from the Greek word “philia” meaning love,
and the Latin word “bio” meaning life. People are considered to feel a deep desire to
connect with nature and the vital elements. Taking into account the selection of plants
suitable for cancer patients and their distribution in various therapeutic gardens.
Design notes:
Structural: The design consists of several blocks, each of which is designed with its
own structural system separate from the adjacent block, which differs in the thickness
of the columns and the distances between them. Taking into account the expansion
interval between the blocks.
For emergencies and public safety: A street was designed that wraps around the entire
project to facilitate the entry of firefighting vehicles in emergency situations, and the
street is designed with appropriate dimensions. In addition to designing the internal
stairs to be closed and armed emergency drawers
