Abstract
Abstract The aim of the study is to examine the impact of applying corporate governance standards in tax departments on financial performance. This is achieved by identifying governance standards and linking these factors to the financial performance of the income tax department. To achieve the study's objectives, answer its questions, and test its hypotheses, a questionnaire was designed and distributed to all individuals in the study sample. The study population consists of employees working in income tax departments in the following: Jenin, Tubas, Tulkarm, Nablus, Qalqilya, Salfit, Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Jericho, Bethlehem, and Hebron. The designed questionnaire was distributed to all individuals who consented to participate, totaling 100 employees. The final sample consisted of 90 employees from various tax departments in all regions. The study concludes several important findings, including the disclosure of expected essential risk elements, voluntary disclosure of guarantees, and mandatory disclosures. Additionally, the study found that the department is committed to ethical behavior and sound professional practices, adhering to laws, regulations, and supervisory and regulatory controls. The department has mechanisms to detect improper behaviors and practices, identifying those responsible. Companies have mechanisms or laws that allow the punishment of employees if their mistakes are proven at work. Moreover, supervisory and regulatory bodies responsible for implementing laws and regulations fulfill their duties objectively and professionally. The researcher also made several recommendations, emphasizing the importance of increasing awareness among company employees at all levels about the significance of applying governance standards and their expected financial effects on performance. It is suggested that tax departments, in all regions, utilize their websites to disclose matters occurring within these departments on the Internet to enhance disclosure, transparency, and information provision. Furthermore, there is a call to increase efforts to adopt governance rules related to the principles of disclosure, transparency, accountability, and responsibility in companies. This is crucial for obtaining financial reports characterized by trust and credibility, serving the purposes of users of such reports in making their financial decisions.
