Self Confidence Among the Seventh, Eight and Ninth Grade Students in the Governmental Schools in Nablus District During Al-Aqsa Intifada

Abstract
This study aimed at identifying the effect of AI-Aqsa Intifada on the achievement and self-confidence of the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students in Nablus District. It also aimed at identifying the variables of the student's gender, place of residence, father's qualification, mother's qualification, grade, average, and birth rank on the students' self- confidence and achievement. Moreover, this study aimed at identifying the correlation between the students' self- confidence and self- trust. The population of the study consisted of the seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students in the governmental schools in Nablus District. They were (15929) students in (110) schools in the first semester of the scholastic year (2001-2002). The sample of the study consisted of (900) students which is (5%) of the population. To the questionnaire validity, it was given to seven specialists in the Faculty of Education at An-Najah University. Moreover, cronpac Alpha Formula was used to compute the reliability of the questionnaire which was (0.79) which is suitable the purposes of the study. The results of the study were: 1. There was an average degree of self- confidence among the seven eighth, and ninth grade. Students in the governmental schools in Nablus district. The percentage of the mean of response was (66.8). 2. There was a statistically significant correlation between self- confidence and achievement. 3. There was a statistically significant difference between the domain of self- confidence and the ability to persuade others and favour of the first domain. 4. There was a significant difference between the problem solving ability domain and the domain of self- acceptance and sense of security in favour of the second domain. 5. There was statistically significant difference between the domain of self- confidence and ability to convince others and the domain of self - acceptance and the ability to convince others and the domain of self- acceptance and sense of security in favour of the first domain. 6-There was an average degree of achievement among the students. The percentage of the mean of the responses was (64.6%). 7. There was a statistically significant difference in self-confidence and achievement among students due to the variables of gender, place of residence, qualification of the mother, grade, and the rank of birth, and the average. 8. There was no statistically significant difference in self-confidence and achievement due to the father's qualification. 9. There was a statistically significant difference in the total degree of the self- confidence and the self -confidence and in the self- confidence and the ability to convince others domain, and in the self- acceptance and sense of security domain due to the mother's qualification. 10. There was a statistically significant difference in the problem facing domain and in the self- acceptance and sense of achievement and in the total degree of self- confidence in favour of the seventh grade due to the students' grade. 11. There was a statistically significant difference in the domain of self- acceptance and sense of security and the total degree of achievement in favour to the first, due to the variable of birth order. 12. There was a statistically significant difference in the total degree of self- confidence among students due to their average. The difference was between excellent, very good, good, acceptable in favor of the excellent average. And between very good and acceptable in favour of the very good average.
