Abstract
Healthcare Sector (HS) sustainability is a crucial topic that affects people's lives and well-being. However, the associated Supply Chain (SC) activities constitute a remarkable share of harmful emissions attributed to this sector, with social and economic repercussions. Consequently, this study aimed to assess the impact of Green Supplier Selection (GSS) on Sustainable Performance (SP), with Green Organizational Culture (GOC) as a mediating variable in the Palestinian Healthcare Sector (PHS). The study took an explanatory quantitative approach, using an electronic self-directed questionnaire to collect data from non-governmental healthcare institutions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Accordingly, a total of 50 valid responses were obtained from top leadership and procurement managers working in these institutions. In this regard, the SmartPLS software was used to analyze data, model the relationships between the constructs, and test the proposed hypotheses. The findings show that GSS has approximately no impact on the SP in its three dimensions: environmental, economic, and social. Additionally, the GSS's impact on the GOC was not supported, reflecting the limited influence of the suppliers on changing the embedded culture and enhancing organizational performance. However, the SP was shown to be significantly positively impacted, in its three dimensions, by the GOC embedded within these institutions. However, the GOC has failed to mediate between the GSS and SP. This study extends the literature on Green Supply Chain (GSC) practices, GOC, and SP in the PHS, which is a resource-constrained sector operating in a developing country. Practically, the study presents valuable insights that assist policymakers (i.e., the Ministry of Health (MoH)) in developing a national green regulatory framework, and support healthcare managers in setting a sustainability-oriented strategy utilizing the GOC. In short, the study stresses the importance of internal culture in boosting the SP and promotes creating a strategic partnership between the suppliers and the procurement department to achieve sustainable outcomes in the HS.
