| dc.description.abstract | This thesis presents an architectural study and design of a nursing home tailored to meet the unique needs of the elderly in Palestine, with a specific focus on the region of Tulkarem. The study begins by exploring the definitions of aging and the elderly, alongside a historical overview of nursing homes. It emphasizes the critical role these facilities play in offering full-time healthcare, personal care, and opportunities for socialization, highlighting their importance in supporting an aging population. An in-depth case study of the Residential and Nursing Home Simmering is conducted, providing a thorough examination of the facility’s description, location, conceptual design, functional analysis, elevation, materials, foundational elements, safety systems, and architectural solutions. The site analysis covers crucial aspects such as site location, zoning, aerial imagery, travel distances, neighborhood context, legal frameworks, natural features including topography and vegetation, soil type, circulation patterns, utilities, climate, sensory attributes, and site photographs. The project program outlines the functional and operational requirements essential for the facility. It details the needs of users, equipment, vehicles, elevators, staircases, ramps, fire safety systems, ventilation, lighting, heating, flooring, doors, windows, and gardening. Primary spaces, including residential rooms, communal areas, and support spaces, are described alongside ancillary spaces like hallways, bathrooms, storage, and utility areas. Additionally, the functional relationships and schedule necessary for efficient operation are discussed. This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive approach to designing nursing homes that cater to the elderly in Palestine, considering their social, cultural, and environmental contexts to enhance their quality of life. | |
